Professor Sergey Gorbatov combines his extensive background in human resources, organizational behavior, and executive education to inspire and educate future business leaders. Since 2015, he has been a faculty member at IE Business School, teaching in both International and Executive MBA programs, Master's in HR and Talent Development, and customized corporate courses. He is academic director of Talent Builders, an executive program for heads of talent management and learning.
With over 18 years of experience in various high-profile roles, Sergey's deep expertise in Talent Management, Leadership Development, and Organizational Effectiveness has been honed in complex, multinational environments. His career has seen him working in influential positions at renowned corporations such as AbbVie, PMI, and Shell, dealing with global talent management, HR in Latin America, and developing executive pipelines.
Sergey earned his MA in Linguistics and Intercultural Communication at Orel State University in Russia, complemented with an MBA from IE Business School in Madrid, Spain. He obtained his Ph.D. in Management at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the Netherlands, where he is also Director at the Center for Feedback Culture. His book, co-authored with Angela Lane, ‘FairTalk: Three Steps to Powerful Feedback,’ enables any leader to drive results in their teams through fair, focused, and credible feedback. Their next book will reveal the 10 secrets of career success that anyone can learn to have a “career on your terms” (coming in May 2024, Pearson Publishing).
A global citizen, Sergey is passionate about cultures, diversity, and languages. A Russian native, he has lived and worked in Russia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, and the United States.
