Over the past 30 years, both management education and leadership development have grown tremendously in popularity. But do the two always go hand in hand? There were almost 10,000 management schools throughout the world in 2016, and it is clear that there is a high demand for short courses and degrees in management. A Google search for ”Leadership” returns almost 1 billion results! It is often assumed that the two go hand in hand. But should this be the case? Whose job is it to create leaders anyway? This MeritTalk will be conducted by Maastricht School of Management's Director of Global Education and Senior Lecturer in Marketing & Strategy, Oliver W. Olson. Oliver, originally from California, started his career in product marketing and banking almost 30 years ago. For the past 12 years, he has held management roles in academia in Hungary, Romania, and the Netherlands, while teaching marketing and strategy on MBA programmes in 10 countries on four continents.
