Enterprise Ireland: Leadership & Scaling
23-May-2024 15:30 - 16:40
Enterprise Ireland (EI) is Ireland's trade development agency, tasked with growing indigenous SME exports and jobs through financial, advisory and capability supports. While financial supports are critical to resource start-up and scaling companies, soft supports are equally important in influencing the mindset, confidence, and ability of leadership teams. Major predictors of export growth are psychological/behavioural e.g., CEO ambition, strategic leadership, and professional management practices. Capability needs in SMEs are disproportionately high due to 1) Higher costs to access training than large enterprises. 2) Lack of awareness of training needs and benefits of training. 3) Lack of expertise in sourcing and evaluating appropriate programmes (Evaluations of State Supports for Enterprise 2015, p. 11). To address these issues EI’s Leadership & Scaling Department design and procure delivery of customised programmes targeting CEOs and their senior leadership teams. Partnering with world-class Business Schools we help build professionally led Irish companies. The initiative involves a suite of programmes aligned to leadership across 6 pillars – Strategy, People and Culture, Innovation, Finance, Sales and Marketing and Operations. An independent evaluation of over 1,000 alumni found significant, attributable behavioural and organisational changes, at least 3,500 additional jobs and a minimum return to the State of >€400 million.
