Interview with Professor Luís Cardoso, Director of Católica-Lisbon Executive Education

Professor Luís Cardoso is a Senior Associate Dean for Executive Education, and Director of Executive Education at Católica-Lisbon School of Business and Economics (Portugal). He has been part of the leadership of Católica-Lisbon for over 25 years.

Can you give us some facts and figures about your school?

Católica-Lisbon Executive Education is currently among the 40 best Business Schools in the world and in the European top 20, according to the Financial Times.

Three thousand participants attend our programmes every year and we have trained more than 40,000 professionals in management in areas such as strategy, leadership and organisational behaviour, accounting and control, supply chain, digital innovation, the pharmaceutical industry, Business Analytics and Big Data, marketing and sales, the transportation industry, tourism, and medicine, among others.

We hold over 100 programmes per year and work with the most reputable national and international universities such as the Kellogg School of Management, HKUST Business School, Ashridge Business School, Bocconi University, Maastricht School of Management, and Fundação Dom Cabral, among others. We also welcome participants of various nationalities from more than 20 countries such as the USA, Brazil, China, Angola, Poland, The Netherlands, and many more.

What is your opinion about the in-house training evolution over the years?

This is a very challenging and stimulating market. We have to keep up with the latest trends in management and it’s also necessary to know different industries intimately, in order to customise our programmes effectively. It’s very rewarding to deal with this market, because we have the opportunity to work directly and closely with our main partners and companies. That helps us better understand their needs while improving our competences.

We are aware of the enormous responsibility that Católica-Lisbon has had in recent years in training professionals in diverse companies, and our goal for the future is to keep innovating our methodologies and our programmes’ portfolio, in order to satisfy the market’s needs, in open programmes as well as in customised programmes.
